Limón Restaurant

HISTORY

With the invaluable support of his mother Luz, and brothers Antonio and Eduardo, Martin Castillo opened Limon on July 11, 2002 in a 45 -seat established at 17th and Valencia streets in San Francisco.

As Limón quickly became renowned for delicious and savory Peruvian dishes infused with Chinese, and Japanese flavors and style, Martin and his family decided to move the restaurant around the corner to 524 Valencia Street in order to accomadate more guests. Designed by Noise 13, the new facility seats up to 100 and includes a bar and lounge area.

Early Inspiration

Martin Casillo's love for authentic Peruvian cuisine developed while, as a boy in Peru, he stood by his mother's side intently watching as she prepared authentic Peruvian cuisine in the family' s kitchen. Martin often accompanied Luz to the market, assisting her in selecting fresh produce and meat for the family's evening meals.

As she grew older, Luz sugessted that Martin learn to prepare his own meals, thus sparking the very beginning of what would eventually be Martin's successful career as a leading San Francisco Chef.

A Dream Becomes Reality

Martin left Peru to become to the United States in 1988, with the intention of continuing a thriving soccer career, but quickly found that his true calling was indeed his ability to develop and prepare beautiful and flavorful Peruvian cuisine.

With his brothers Antonio and Eduardo soon to follow him to the United States, Martin and his brother gained valuable culinary experince working in other noted San Francisco restaurants including Rubicon, Sol y Luna and Aqua.

As the Castillo brothers continued to perfect their culinary skills, their dream of opening a restaurant began to seem more plausible.

The Castillo mother Luz , sister Ana, and Ana's husband, Aldo, soon joined the rest of the family in California to help the dream of opening a family-owned restaurant become a reality.

The Castillo's found their first location, and Limon was born, with each family member playing a vital role. With Martin as executive chef, Luz assisting with Limon's highly popular ceviches, Antonio and Aldo occasionally working as sous chefs, and Eduardo leading the wait staff and providing excellent customer service, Limón continues to impress both new customers and the many who return time and time again.
